Events, dear boy (and girl…) events

November 24th, 2008

Dear SBUK readers,

Those of us aware of political history will know this quote from Macmillan (whom I believe also noted that a week is a long time in politics too…) -but this week seems to be choc-full of enterprise events (for those who didn't get to celebrate Enterprise Week last week!)…

Two events I've given notice of are  listed below

   Financial Intelligence 4 Financial Independence

A seminar showing you how to reduce or eliminate debt,

create your own roadmap to wealth and protect and ring-fence your wealth

Invest just 4 hours and gain Financial Intelligence that will set you on the road to the Financial Independence you are looking for

Details for the event can be downloaded here: financial-intelligence-seminar-25-11.doc

And of course, there's the Business Start-Up at Olympia this coming Friday and Saturday… for full details, go to www.bstartup.com!

Best, Caroline

Another photoshoot, another case study…

November 24th, 2008

Dear SBUK readers,

Being a case study is relatively straightforward stuff - getting ready for the close-up is often something else.  Last Tuesday - after listening to how bad the economy's going to get at the Bank of England - I was busy putting my best face forward for the camera as I was one of a number of case studies taking part in an article about avoiding colds, flu, coughs and sneezes over the winter. Being asthmatic doesn't always help (and yes my inhalers go everywhere with me!), and I'm not the world's best patient, but there's something about having my picture taken (these days, it's with a professional photographer, when the occasion arises!) that takes me right back to when I was a little girl who loved nothing better (if she was bored!) than being the centre of attention.

It didn't take very long: I flirted with the photographer (this works for me as it makes my - and their - job much easier if you're both having a bit of a laugh!); posed my backside off, made sure the photographer got my best profile and slipped him my card just in case I'm able to get sent pix of this year's model…

Being a case study, as I've said, can be relatively straightforward work: sometimes you'll be paid in cash, other times you won't be (and that's the nature of the beast, unfortunately).  But sometimes, if you're very lucky (and if you ask the photographer nicely…), you might just get some new pix to add to that corporate picture collection!

Innovation in an Economic Downturn

November 19th, 2008

Dear SBUK readers,

Events in the run-up to Christmas are coming thick & fast in my in-box - here's details of another one you may interested in and details are listed below - best, Caroline

On Thursday 4th December, Lord Drayson, Minister of State for Science and Innovation will make a keynote speech on the importance of innovation in an economic downturn.

Lord Drayson will then join a panel discussion with Brent Hoberman, co-founder of Lastminute.com and Charlie Leadbeater, innovation expert and NESTA Visiting Fellow to consider the opportunities arising out of the downturn. Jonathan Kestenbaum, NESTA’s Chief Executive will moderate.

The event marks the launch of a NESTA report – ‘The Networked Recession’ - which will highlight how in an ultra-connected world, events a thousands miles away can affect us almost immediately: Our ability to respond effectively to the downturn will depend upon the resilience of those networks and our ability to manage the challenges they present. It will argue that the UK needs targeted investments on infrastructure, alongside a new economic strategy that reflects the changing nature of the economy.

Date: Thursday 4th December
Time: Registration will be from 5.00pm. Presentations will start promptly at 5.30pm
Venue: NESTA, 1 Plough Place, London, EC4A 1DE

Networking will follow the main event.
